ABOUT DR. CILLIERS
Dr. Pieter L Cilliers qualified with an MBChB from Stellenbosch University with a distinction in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He subsequently obtained a diploma in anaesthetics (DA) and specialised as a family physician (FCFP). He practised for many years as a family physician.
He also passed the Canadian licensing examination (LMCC) to practise medicine in Canada and is registered in the UK as a medical practitioner. He specialised in psychiatry at the University of Cape Town (at Valkenburg and Groote Schuur Hospitals) and obtained his Fellowship from the College of Psychiatrists (FC Psych). He then started a private practice as a specialist psychiatrist.
He has a special interest in adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Bipolar Mood Disorder and psychiatric disorders of the elderly such as Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. He is frequently asked to provide second opinions and increasingly does more medicolegal work as an expert in legal proceedings.
Dr Cilliers underwent personal long-term psychotherapy but practises mainly short-term Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and MBCT. He attends various courses and local and international conferences every year. He is fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English. He is married and the father of two sons.
He continues attending conferences to stay up to date with all the latest scientific research done in his field. He has attended short master courses in ADHD, Bipolar Mood Disorder, CBT and MBCT in the past.
ABOUTTHE PRACTICE
The rooms are in a manor house in the style of Sir Herbert Baker on the slopes of Oranjezicht. Set in peaceful gardens, this is a private and confidential environment.
